For the past unknown number of years my sister in law has been giving me fresh picked broad beans from her garden. She told me that these were a type of green bean. I found out that they are actually the same thing as fava beans. I have always heard that fava beans were toxic to parrots. I have searched and other than people stating that they are toxic have not been able to find any scientific article stating that they are and why. I talked to the vet and she said that she had heard the same but also no proof ever seen of this. So Cassie has been eating these for years with no ill effect and now I'm wondering if I should continue to feed them to her, she does love them.
Can anyone share a link to a scientific article about broad/fava beans being toxic. Thanks.
