We have two U2s already. Tiki (rescue) and Otis (re home). Their personalities are as different as night and day.
Over the weekend, my lovely wife decided to rescue another cockatoo.
His name is Guido and he is a sulfur crested cockatoo. We re told he is Triton. He will be coming home Tuesday if the vet clears him.
Of course I spent the weekend searching and reading on the internet and on here of course all about sulfur crested 2.
From I have gathered, their requirements are the same as a U2. So for all of you are living with a GSC, what are they like?
What are your experinces?

Good luck. Be sure to keep them quarantined for at least 30 days. Even with the vet clearing him he may still be harboring something.

Thanks BE2Cassie. Didn't think about that. Guido has been among other birds where is he staying for now. I insisted on using our vet for well bird.

The fact that he is with other birds now is even more reason to keep him in quarantine.

So far soon good. Guido is in quarantine. The first night he came home, I went into the room where he is staying, sat down on the beanbag with my tablet. About 15 minutes later, he came out his cage, and walked over to me, climb up into my lap and sat there. Few vocalizations. Stay there for another 15 or so minutes and went back to his cage. Same thing last night. Doing pretty good with my wife and son too. NOT bad for a bird that has been abuse by male humans (So we were told).

We have had our GSC for 18 of her 19 years. She is a true Galerita, the nominate Greater from Australia. She is a true homebody and seems to enjoy a fairly rigid schedule but will be boarded without too much of a fuss by our vet. They are somewhat like crows in Australia.

I should think they would be a little easier than an Umbrella but, as you said, they can be as different as day and night. Regardless, I wanted to thank you for caring for them and welcome you aboard. There really is a wealth of education to be had here and I hope you can make good use of it. cool Our bird is pictured on the Greaters in this taxonomy.

Thank you for your kind words. And a BIG THANK YOU for the creating this site. It is because of you and the board members that change my thinking. I was going to buy a baby bird first but found your website in doing research. And when we have our birds with us when shopping or other outdoor activities and people ask us about our companions, I tell them to go to mytoos and they are going to have a two year old that lives up to 80 years. I actively try to discourage buying babies and instead point to rescues.
