This is my first attempt at posting a movie and it may or may not work! It is a big file, 6 Meg, but only two minutes long. Questions I have for the knowledgeable:

I purchased a video editing program called "Pinnacle Studio" but when I bought my IEEE1394 adapter and cable, it came with a program called "Ulead Video Studio". These are huge programs and when they looked so much alike, I deleted the Pinnacle Studio and am using the Ulead. Does anyone know of a simple and easy to use program. It seems as if each time I try to modify and save, I have a different set of problems and the number of formats to save with are limited to WMV, AVI, Mpeg and a number of "Ulead" extensions that I have never heard of. Any help with the most frugal video formats will be appreciated. smile

Anyway, if you can load a six Meg file (took over an hour to upload from my home dialup), here's an interview with a cockatoo! laugh

Charlie,

Your baby is absolutely gorgeous. Pretty little face. Perfect crest.
I think she has got you wrapped around her fingers. She apparantly loves the outdoors.

You know listening to you made me start laughing at myself cause I interact the same way with Lucky amd Zachary (Green Cheek Conure).

If people could see us, we'd be the ones in white Jackets. Loved it!

Thanks for sharing,
Rick and Lucky

I very much enjoyed your video and hope to see more in the near future. smile

It started out as "punkin" and evolved to something like "punka"! As you can see, we say things the way she likes them said! wink She always wants a salad or a snack! Thanks for the compliments. smile

That was awesome...what a beauty!!! If non-bird people ever heard the way we hold conversations with these guys, the straight jackets would be the least of our worries, but being here, at least we know we aren't alone! Can't wait to see more!

Neat! It loaded for me in about 30 seconds laugh . (Nothing to do with my computer skills, just a fast machine.) She seems to be doing really well at teaching you. wink Did you ever take her outside?

Oh Charlie that was wonderful. How old is Polka? At what age did she start talking? How much time a day do you spend with her? I did notice that you are in the garage or shop,Sugar spends a lot of time with my husb in his shop,I do worry about what words she might pick up.You know how it is when you ping your finger with a hammer

That was adorable... But I wish you had alot more of it. I love watching that birdie chatter. Who taught her to talk and what did it require. Stosh says only Hello, Stosh is a good birdie, pretty bird. I would love to get him to talk more. Your bird looks sooooo much like Stosh.
Can you "teach an old bird new tricks" ?? He is at leat 24 but I would love to teach him to say something new....like 'I love you' or something.
Nice job!

Brilliant! What a beauty she is. And it's the first bit of film that ever got the attention of his royal highness, too! he sat stock still on the perch and watched it over and over.

Not sure which I enjoyed more though, your pretty baby or the southern accent (there's a bit of a shortage of them around here don't cha know).

Yeah, it's good to hear from you and Cyrus, Andrea. You gave us a scare for awhile. I'm glad Baby made Cyrus all goo goo. I never noticed her accent but now that you mention it...... :p Is me and Peg's website still censored in China? I know it was for awhile. LOL

Jody, yes, she spends most of her time outside and we take her outside every day of the year for at least a little while. The weather here in Louisiana, excluding hurricanes, is fairly moderate and she loves to be outside.

Vondooly, Baby will be eight in March. We have had her for seven years. She said her name when we got her and just picks up words all the time but mostly she talks about food, going bye-bye and taking a shower, stuff she wants or likes. We talk to her constantly. She hated my wife for the first two years and Peg would just sit and talk to her. They are buddies now! We never cuss in front of her but she likes several of my oilfield buddies and I know they have tried to teach her a few unpleasant things!

Marin, I noticed your pictures of Stosh and he does look very much like Baby. It looks as if he has a totally white eye-ring and very pale cheeks. That is an indication of Cacatua galerita, which is what Baby is, but there are hybrids everywhere. I suspect most of your birds talk that well. The only reason you understand her is because I'm repeating her phrases. It would just sound like garble if you didn't know her and have an interpreter! Notice how you can get them to flip their wings out and cock their heads. Just gesture while you talk and they can pick that up as well. I don't think 24 is old at all. We have a cockatiel that age!

Thanks for all the compliments! smile

Yes Dear, your website is still behind the great firewall of china, however I use a proxy server to get pics and files from you when you post links to your own site.

Far as getting your file size down, you know you can convert your vids to flash pretty easily nowadays? that will get you a thinner file size, it's a bit persnickety but most people have the flash player as part of their internet explorer set up and specialist users like firefox etc have it as well, I use aprogram called Camtasia by techsmith to edit and generate video files in multiple formats. Also there's a shareware (I think it's still shareware) program called WINAVI which gives you multiple encoding choices for output. I used to use it to take a 350mb .avi and turn it into a 35 mb file for viewing on my phone. Another thing you can do to reduce your file size is to create the file at the lowest possible physical size, a tinier window that downloads faster is sometimes preferable. But Im in bodunk china and I didn't have a problem getting your file and my connection is dodgy. So I shouldn't worry about it.

thanks for the warm welcome back JM, you missed my post about being in Mongolia then? It's over in chat about your cockatoos somewhere I think...

Bye for now, my work day is starting.

Yeah, some stuff is not real pretty but we can be honest here. Sometimes it's a lot louder and rougher; can only imagine the neighbor's take!

Thanks for the tips, Andrea. I will play around with the WINAVI while I'm at work. That whole clip was 8.5 minutes at 1.29 Gig saved as a full screen WMV, Half screen brought it down to 345 Meg and the size it is now down to 35 Meg, cut to two minutes, 6 Meg. I think I'm getting the hang of it. Thanks to your input and Walter's, I know I'm in the ball park! smile
