I wish people that treated their birds bad, didn't. I wish they could treat their bird as good as I treat Angel.

We went to visit Grandma today and had a little adventure at the park. We took a couple of photos. I just like people to see how well I take care of my bird and how much I love him. smile

I personally can't wait for the warm weather myself. That's when Rico and I go for walks, literally. Will have to try and get Shadow involved except he is not vocally trained yet.
U2Angel, thanks for the nice pics. Angel sure is a sweetie.

When the weather gets nicer, we put Gabby in her diaper-harness and talk the dog for a walk along the river (not quite on the river, quite a bit above it, but it goes around beside it).

Oh, that sounds so kewl Michelle! And so beautiful. I wish I could do that. Where do you live?

Rico, what do you mean not vocally trained? When he goes outside does he make alot of noise? Angel doesn't make a sound! He just looks at the scenery! lol! wink

What I mean to say is that Rico obeys voice commands like a dog, only better. Rico poops on command (when she needs to go of course)If I say "poopies" and she really doesn't have to she shakes her head saying "no". Rico will not poop any and everywhere when she is out of her cage. She looks for the ~okay go ahead "poopies"~ <img border="0" alt="[laughing]" title="" src="graemlins/laugh[1].gif" />

I have already started training Shadow to poop on command. And NO this will not cause them to stop going on their own. They are trained to signal when they need to outside their cages.

It sure as heck saves the carpet and furniture laugh

This is a 3 step process.

1st - You need to spend a few hours everyday just playing together (like that's something new lol). Say one word with emphasis, the same word every time your Angel poops. I say "poopies" with Rico.
You will see them give you that inquisitive look when you say the word, that means that they are registering the word.
2nd - After a few days of doing this you should start saying the word holding Angel in the cage, over a news paper, garbage, whatever and notice what he does. If there is no pooping on command continue step 1.
3rd - Once pooping on command you then have to train them to know when they have pooped in the wrong place (oops can still happen) :p . Simply hold his head above where the mess is so that he could see it and sternly say "no" then praise him "Good Boy" so he knows the "no" was for the poop and nothing else.

Note: Holding them in the cage and saying the word also lets them know that it is still okay to do it in the cage.

I had absolutely no problem training Rico and completed her training in a few days at the store when she was only 3 months old. Shadow is 18 y/o so I'm hoping that he will learn from Rico. I cannot pickup Shadow yet but I am saying the word every time he poops to get him to associate.

Cuzzie will also poop on command and it isn't a really hard thing to do.
When he does poop on you try not to make too much fuss but rather just a little gesture like eeeeew naughty boy.Another thing to try is every ten to twenty minutes let him perch on your hand with your arm fully extended and say poop if there is no response don't worry just try a little later and when he does finally poop give him the biggest reward ever.
Cuzzie has now learnt that is is not fun to poo on me and he truley does try his hardest not to unless I forget he will still hang on my shoulder and stick his bum as far out as possible so that he doesn't get me.
wish you luck u2angel its not too hard.

wow thats really cool does it matter what age the bird is can you still train them if they aren't children (mine are 5 yrs ) currently I have covered my house in shower curtains so that as I walk they don't get it all over also invested in the ecomony bottle of poop off bird poop remover.... will try it with my birds and see if they will do it thanks

Hi sheri this doesn't mean that they aren't going to stop pooping on your floors but its just nice if you take your birds out alot and you don't want them to poo on you whilst you are walking around in public

Thanx alot Rico. I'll try and do what you say. Angel listens so well now, I think it'll be a snap! wink I'll let you know how it goes. The other day he pooped on my grandmothers little dog! He was barking up a storm and Angel just stuck his butt out and 'poop'! It was so funny! I'll try and get him trained, my grandma was very upset...lol, wink

Thnx for the info Cuzzie. I've never scolded Angel for pooping on me or something, I let him know it's disgusting, but don't scream at him like some ppl do to their birds! I would never! Thnx again!

XOXOXOXO

Gabby poops whenever you set her down on the floor. Works for me. Though I am definitely going to have to do some toilet training soon. Man, my shirt last night. ~_~

Cuzzie I understand what you are saying, but I beg to differ. Rico does not poop anywhere but in her cage OR if I command her to poop over something. I usually ask her "poopies" every 5-10 minutes. If I forget she will leave me to go back to her cage, do her thing and come right back or nibble my ear lobe or bottom lip. No not bite, hold and flick her tongue wink

Sheri, I don't know if older birds can be trained. I suspect they should be able to because parrots are so intelligent. I am trying with Shadow right now. He is 18 y/o, but it is a little difficult because I cannot get him to step up just yet. During our interacting time I say the word every time he poops. Hopefully he will associate the word with the action.

It really isn't hard. Don't make it out to be. It could take a few days or a few weeks depending on the way and time spent. Good luck. wink

ROFLMWO - I hadn't realized that I trained the birds to poop but after reading your rendition of "how to" I guess I must have.

I found that the little guys I had readily pooped here there and everywhere, but the big guys intuitively knew not to poop on me.

With my flock, they tend to get a little figgidy and that is how I know they have to poop, so I just walk over to the nearest garbage can and tell them to go ahead and go. Perhaps I didn't train them, perhaps they trained me.

Beautiful Pics
You're right, show people how they "should" treat their loved ones!
Thanks I enjoyed them very much!

Angel is kind of potty trained. Not in the way described. He never poops on me or furniture, he always goes the edge of anything and poops.

Thnx Liisa!! smile I really do think they should be treated just as good as I treat Angel!
