Kyrasmom, you're off to a good start but you have some serious changes that need to be made:
I'm on a 56k dialup connection (as most people still are) and the average good webpage loads for me in the neighborhood of 20 to 30 seconds tops.
Your webpage took 4 full minutes, of which most people wont hang around long enough to wait for that to load (unless they're on cable).
I looked to see what your problem was and discovered that you didnt resize your photos for the net. For instance: In your title bar (where the super tiny photo of your dog is) the photo size is a whopping 202 thousand bytes. The photo should be around "2" thousand bytes.
The great large photo of your umbrella should be in the neighborhood of 50 to 90 thousand bytes tops.. but it too is a whopping 219,480 bytes.
So your photos are many times larger than they need be and that's why the downloads are so slow.
If you need help resizing them, I'll be glad to help. Also, dont forget that most websites are still designed at 800 x 600 and so we must scroll left to right to see everything. As people get newer computers, this will change and is starting to a little bit now.
Hope this helps!
