The following details how you can search the Mytoos message board for the information you’re looking for.

1. A search is started by clicking on the search link found at the top of all the forum pages

The search form will be displayed. This form is used to specify the search parameters.

2. Enter a word or group of words that identify what you’re looking for into the Search Words form field.

3. Specify the form that you would like to have searched. You can search all forms by selecting the Search All Open Forums to search all of the forums in one go. Or you can select a specific forum (to narrow the search).

4. Selecting Subject Only from the Search In drop down list can narrow the search even further. Selecting Entire Message will perform a more exhausting search. This can however give a large number of “hits” that you will need to go through manually.

5. The next options Search By Date allows for a narrowing of the search based on how long ago the message topic was created. To search all messages select the Any Date option. Selecting another option will limit the message search to the range specified.

6. The last option allows you to search messages posted by a specific member. To search only messages posted by a specific user, enter that users number in the Search By Registered Member Number field.

7. Once all the search parameters have seen specified click on the Search button.

At this point the search will begin. You will be given a list of messages that match the search criteria you specified.

Search Example

The following is an example of how to search the Behavior & Behavior Problems forum for topics containing the word biting.

1. Start by clicking on the search link found at the top of all the forum pages

The search form will be displayed. This form is used to specify the search parameters.

2. Type the word biting into the Search Words form field.

3. Select the Behavior & Behavior Problems forum from the Search Forum drop down list.

4. Select the Search button.

You should be given a page containing a list of posts matching the search criteria. This list is comprised of message posts that had the word biting in the message text. Using this type of search can return messages that are not relevant. Next lets reduce the number of “hits” by refining the search.

Perform the steps in the example however, this time select the Subject Only option in the Search In field. Then select the Search button. As you can see the list is much shorting and gives messages that are more specific to biting.

The main difference between selecting Subject Only and selecting Entire Message is that the Subject Only option will display only threads that are specific to what you’re looking for. Selecting the Entire Message will look at the individual posts within a topic even if that topic is not specifically associated with what you’re looking for.

In this final example we will look for messages that a specific message board member has posted. Proceed by performing the following steps

1. Start by clicking on the search link found at the top of all the forum pages

The search form will be displayed. This form is used to specify the search parameters.

2. Type the word biting into the Search Words form field.

3. Select the Behavior & Behavior Problems forum from the Search Forum drop down list.

4. Select the Entire Message Search In option.

5. Select the Any Date Search By Date option.

6. Enter the value 1 in the Search By Registered Member Number field.

7. Select the Search button.

You will get a list of messages that the specified member has posted and contains the word biting in the message text.
