At what age a AG's Sexually mature ? and what are male verses female mating behaviors?

Felix is only 19 months but has been trying to mate with me everytime he sees me & I think he is a girl because he has been crouching and spreading his wings which I thought was female behavior (right?)

zoe our TAG (DNA'D female) showed sexual behaviors like you describe at around 12 months or so... our vet said that wasn't unusual. That doesn't mean sexual maturity has hit... just like kids they experiment before their bodies are ready. At this stage it's probably not really "sexual" behavior... more sort of a discovery of himself/herself. I know that sounds rather anthropomorphic but I can't think of another way of explaining it. I remember the first time our TAG regurgitated for us she was just as shocked as we were and the look she had on her little face was priceless. laugh
She does the same behavior but the wings down crouch is shown in both males and females so that's not in any way an indication of sex. (Many older texts will tell you that only male birds will mount and masturbate on their toys... boy do they need to come visit my house!!!!)
I've been told and have read that **real** sexual maturity normally hits at around 3-5 for TAGS and 5-6 for CAGS but I don't know for certain how accurate that is. I know that our grey seems to be having stronger hormonal surges the older she gets and she's a bit over 3 now.

African Greys are sexually mature anywhere between 4-7 years of age, it varies. But they can exhibit sexual behavior much earlier as LCT has mentioned.

There are many different breeding behaviors...here are a few examples.
He may try to feed you by regurgitating on you while you hold him or talk to him. If you pet your Grey while he has breeding in mind, he will pant and make clearly audible wheezing\coughing sounds. Other body language to look for; females will hold their tails up wings slightly to the side; males will press down against you, wings spread or actually wrapped around your arm or hand. They may gently nip at you during this time in the same way they would gently ‘beak' a mate of their own species. Birds have no sexual preference when determining which person to choose as a mate. A male parrot is just as likely to choose a male person as a female.

Yeah, he does do that lightly nipping thing and makes little sounds but they don't sound like coughing just like little tiny peeps and stuff, like what a mouse would make. He also gurges every time he sees me and sometimes I just have to pretend I do not notice.

So anyone want to guess what sex he is smile

Lightly nipping? That sounds pleasant compared with the bloody bite I received from my yellow nape. <img border="0" alt="[laughing]" title="" src="graemlins/laugh[1].gif" /> Are grey's not as agressive as amazons during their hormonal period? My YNA is hopefully just getting over his stage and I'm just wondering if perhaps my husband, who is 5 yr old Zazu's (CAG), favorite might have to contend with the same sort of agressive attitude?

My male Grey is not as aggressive as my male Amazon, no. My male Amazon is DANGEROUS when he is hormonal. My male Grey is merely a bit more aggressive and at the same time loving, depending on his mood at the time. All birds are individuals of course, so yours may be totally different, but on the whole, I find Greys to be much easier to deal with during breeding season than Amazons..or at least the ones I have, I should say.
