I have been unable to identify the breeder for a Cockatoo we recently rescued. It's band ID is "IVH 97 Fl".

I have checked many of the lists on the web. Any suggestions.

Nice one! When Murphy get's up from his nap (I'm no fool, this break is nice) I will check his band and see if it's in that database! I forsee a new thread coming our way titled......

Oops, wait a sec. Head over to "Chat about your Cockatoos" for a new thread. I don't want to post it in the wrong place. (I do cross stitch, now I'm "cross threading?") laugh

Is that a split or open band? If it is a split, my first guess would be quarantine band. But 97 probably stands for 1997. Fl for Florida? Is there a Avicultural Council or Organization for specifically Florida? or National? Most breeders ( angry ) do register their bands.

I've been trying to figure out Murphy's band. It's JPS (PS = parrot society I assume, no idea about the J) then 94 (year he was hatched which would make him 12 not 14! oops...) and a 2 (no clue). I'm still searching.....

Fozzi can you email me the link? NHBOUND105@msn.com

it's okay murphy's mom, i have been on this site for less than a week and i think i have already cross threaded a couple of times!
all i know is that Elvis' band has Texas on it.. and it is split.. could someone email me the link so that i could find out about my baby? i want to ask them why in the heck they named this bird Elvis?! i want to change hs name though.. i would never really call my own son Elvis... just Romeo wink and Justice was the name of my beloved cat... so something unique and fits him.. i just don't know yet... would it be bad if i changed his name? or should i put that in a different thread? i will search for anything about it and if not, i will repost in the correct thread...

stac,
what does it say on the band? any idea how old he is? if it's a quarantine band, he's over 20. pedro has a usda band, so i may be able to decipher it for you, i tracked pedro to a quarantine staion in brownsville, tx. breeder bands are more difficult, all i know about joey is she was bred in fla, can't locate the breeder with the info on the band, so i can't find out the yr she was hatched. crazy huh? the govt keeps track of imported birds, but there's very little regulation of breeders within the states. do a search of all threads on name changes. there's tons on the subject.

Elvis has a breeder's tag.. i know he is from a breeder, cause the pet shop handfed him from a breeder (this is what they tell me at least!) and that he is from Texas... as far as anything else on the band... since he had that scare with the band he wont let me get close to it... his scare was that he got it caught on a metal hook thing that my ex put on his cage (in order to keep him in the cage while we were gone) and it was REALLY scary cause i thought i was going to lose him! he made his scared noise and stuff like that..
As far as changing his name i kind of thought that was the case. it took me awhile to grasp on to how to search (beings that i didn't know exactly what i would want to search for) but i typed in name change and got some good advice.. i asked Elvis if i could change his name.. he ignored me.. .i don't think that i will change it.. but i will give him a nickname wink just like i did my son... i don't know what yet.. i mostly call him my little baby when i talk to him one on one, but when i discipline him i call him Elvis Aaron.. and knows i am meaning business!

I read the article, and have read several others. I also have a bird with a band I can't decipher. the abbreviation isn't listed on any list I've been able to find, and the possible combinations of numbers that could be hatch dates are pretty hard to believe, except one. If that one is accurate (or even within 5 years) he's at least twice the age the previous owners told us. (so what else is new? ) As identification, the band is useless, and I'll have it removed eventually. It doesn't seem to bother him; he doesn't even play with it, so I'm not in a big hairy hurry, though.

In looking again at my Cockatoo's band, it could be HAI, not IVH, as I had first thought. Any links to breeder ID lists would be appreciated.

Fozzi or Murphymum, can you directly email me the band list link you mentioned earlier - my first reading may have been backward. See above? My e-mail address is hdenton1@chartertn.net.

Thanks
