Hi has anyone here ever been given carprofen for feather picking and was it successful? I have a 3 year old Eleanora Cockatoo that started picking in January after seeming itchy for a couple weeks and constantly trying to put things in her neck feathers. She is now bald around her neck and it’s continuing to pick so the area is getting bigger. Thanks for any help in advance.

I don't remember the vet ever giving carprofen to birds that came in the clinic. They prescribed it for a number of dogs with skin allergies though. Hopefully someone will come on that has heard of or used it with birds. You may want to take some time and read about Noelle. http://www.mytoos.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=250460&page=1

Ok thank you. I’ve been reading and I am a bit concerned because I don’t see this talked about as a drug for feather picking. Her labs, I was told, were good except that her calcium was a bit high. The bottle says give for 5 days then as needed to relieve picking.

I’ve never heard of it being used for feather destruction behavior either.

Thank you. That’s what I was afraid of. I have been reading about Noelle. I’m so sorry. She was beautiful and a blessing.

Thank you! Yes she was beautiful and a blessing! Not a day goes by that I don’t think of her.
