Today I took Sampson to the vet just to have him checked out. Well it turns out that he is a total flirt. Especially to girls and women. He kept talking and asking them, "what's your name", I love you and when they would laugh he would laugh too. It's was very entertaining. But when he is home he becomes totally quiet. I have only had him a week. But he won't talk to me or my husband. He is 10 years old

Give him time. At 10 years old this is a rough time for him to be rehomed. Did he live with the same people his first 10 yrs? Cockatoos grieve what they have lost. With lots of love, attention and understanding he'll come around. Welcome to Mytoos.

Thank you for your comment. He had lived with his previous owner for around 10 years and recently given back to the pet store where he was originally purchased from. He is very sweet and loves kids.

We have RB2s. It sounds like as Nancy said, he is still getting used to you and is grieving for what he has lost. He was talking and happy in the pet store because he had been there before and it was familiar. He is still getting used to new people and surroundings. Give him time. Our female RB2 is very attached to my husband and until I retired she wanted little to do with me. It took months of being around her till she got used to me being there. We also have a male RB2. Use the search function above and peruse what I have posted (and others) about our RB2s and their behaviors. They are really great birds.
