My name is Cris, from Milwaukie, OR just outside Portland. I just adopted a bare-eyed cockatoo from the Oregon Humane Society. As you may have heard they rescued almost 250 birds from abysmal conditions- http://www.oregonhumane.org/birdsrescue/ and adoptions of these birds started yesterday. They had quite a few 'toos- Moluccans, umbrellas, sulfur-crested, Goffin's, even a galah- so hopefully more adopters will find their way here!

My guy is settling in, wary of the resident critters but playing happily with toys. We know nothing of his age or history but the volunteers who cared for him believe he was a pet at some point- he talks and may know some basic behaviors. We'll take it slow and easy, and yes, we'll schedule a vet visit smile

This forum has so much useful info; I look forward to taking part!

Welcome to Mytoos Cris and little one. What is you little BE2s name? I'm kind of partial to the little corellas. It's great that you were able to adopt him.

I haven't decided on a name yet. Since he's a rescue, we don't know what his name was. He is quite the talker, and so far says "Hi, Peaches" and "Hi, Peter," so one of them might have been his name. I'm leaning towards Corey, as it's kind of short for corella and works just as well if he turns out to be a she smile

Hello Chris. If you need any tips on where to get supplies or materials for toy building or just info in general the exotic bird rescue of Oregon is based out of Tigard. Christine is who you want to contact. I can also answer any questions you may have. I am over in Clatsop County on the coast.
Is this your first time sharing your life with a large cockatoo?
