Hi fellow too owners. 10 days ago I adopted my new U2 from my friend who is dying. He is an 8 year old male who has lived with her all his life. I recently lost my 14 year old female U2 due to a long illness. I really want to build a relationship with my new guy, but I am finding it hard. He will let me pet him, and rub his feet. He is talking and acting normally. He hasnt been given a lot of attention by my friend recently so I think the new attention from me is a good thing, however he seems a little stand offish. He says step up, and starts to do so then goes to bite my arm (not test the perch, he wants to bite), I say no and he stops immediatly, but has only actually stepped up 2 times without doing this bite thing. If the cage door is opened he never leaves his cage. He will stand on the door and climb around a little but goes back in. He wont go to the floor and walk around. He never was given foraging toys, and just today started to use the ones I gave him.

I am sorry to say that I feel like he is just living here, and we arent bonding. I need help, I want to have a relationship!

Oh, you are bonding. Don't worry. smile Going slowly is the best thing you can do for the poor guy right now. All is well. Trust is slow.

I am surprised that people didn't jump in with specific suggestions! I'll bet, like me, they trust that you know exactly what to do with time, treats, consistency. After all, you've done this before and probably know more than most people here. I hope all is going well.

It does work....keep at it. All of a sudden things will start clicking....sometimes when you least expect it.

This is what happens when you get two threads going that are basically the same. It doesn't bring in more replies just causes confusion.
