Scooter just passed away following surgery.

When I got him, he had been severely abused, in the last few months, remodeling of a series of fractures in his tail started applying pressure to his spinal cord. He was in acute pain. He went in for a tail amputation. All went well in surgery, but he arrested in recovery.

I think I made his last few years a lot better. Just wish I could have done more for him in the end.

I'm so very sorry. You made his last few years more than better. Scooter knew love and a gentle hand with you. There was nothing more that you could have done for him. Most people would not have done as much and would have done what the first vet expected. You gave Scooter a chance that others wouldn't. He knows it and is watching over you.

My heart is breaking for you, so sorry to hear this. I checked in just to hear how it went & even though I don't know you or Scooter, I have been following your story, really hoping for a good outcome. Its just awful when you do everything you possibly can for the animals you love & it ends in tragedy. You did all you could, Scooter knew that, perhaps he had just had enough...at least he will no longer suffer & is now waiting for you, free of pain, at Rainbow Bridge, waiting with the other animals you have loved & lost until you come for them, then you will all cross the bridge together, as a family again for eternity :-)

If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem

I'm very sorry for your loss. As hard as we try, sometimes God has another plan. Scooter is whole again and free from pain and suffering. Try and hold onto that.

That expresses my feelings exactly. Last month, I went and read your story from the beginning. I just remember him dancing http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/kimberlykaydavis/media/ScooterCher_zps92eca2ef.mp4.html and think to myself, that at least you were able to put some happy back into his life before the end.

As I started deep cleaning the cage I thought I would donate everything that could be cleaned and sterilized. Never thought I would say this, but without Scooter the house is just too quiet.

He was so loud and vibrantly full of life. Sometimes he frustrated me, but he is sorely missed. Scooter has been miserable for a few weeks, but most of the last years of his life were happy.
My husband used to ask anyone who acted interested if they wanted him, but even he has admitted that the house is sadly quiet without him.

Scooter was sore and medicated when Harley (my service dog) was shot. I was giving Scooter his favorite foods to get him to eat. When Harley whined Scooter would tell him he was a good boy and offer him his favorite treats through the bars of the cage. When I went to get the body, Scooter was wrapped in a towel, but Harley immediately knew, and he literally howled there in the waiting room and intermittently whined on the way home.

Today a package will come in filled with some soothing balm for Scooter's injury and new toys that might help him regain his sense of balance w/o the tail. I know I'll be in tears again. I just hope Scooter is dancing and inserting his banter and constant laughter into every conversation on the other side. smile

Oh God, I am so very sorry to read this! I've been traveling and just haven't had decent Wifi until today. Rest in peace, precious Scooter, you are free to fly whole and happy once again.

Thank you so very much for your excellent, patient and loving care of this bird whom God gave to you - for you to heal Scooter's heart, and that you did many times over! May your kind and loving heart heal...

Annette
