I am super excited about this perch that my husband built for Billy this week. It is full of potential as we plan to keep Billy on the perch most of the day instead of on his cage. Too bad Billy is still SUPER scared of the perch. I ended up just setting it right by his open cage and will let him decide when to explore and get comfortable with his new home. Any ideas how long this might take?

I LOVE that perch! Your husband is a very clever man, you are so lucky. Good luck with it, I'm sure Billy will get used to it eventually, if you just leave it there for him to see every day, he will soon see it is just part of the furniture & want to explore it in no time...how long that takes is up to him though I reckon...what a lucky bird he is :-)

If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem
Cheers,

Cool looking! Try putting some of his favorite treats on it. Also, you play with it. You know how possessive they can be. If you have, they want it.

I just wanted to update that Billy loves his perch now. It just took some time. We ended up wrapping a lot of the branches with vet wrap though, since they were slippery. He loves tearing the vet wrap off and throwing the shreds around. We just re-wrap as needed. It does not look so pretty covered with a variety of different vet wraps, but Billy thinks it is just great. Also, since it has industrial style wheels, it can move around to any window in the house so he can watch us when we work outside. Overall, we love the perch and the versatility it gives us! Peace.
