In 1987 Baryshnikof landed on Shelly's shoulder in her back yard. The vet guessed him to be around 5 years old at the time. He beat the odds staying around for 32 years. I've been bird sitting him since 2008. He was one of my first customers. A flirty old guy who loved the girls. He wasn't too keen on hands and heaven help you when you offered him a hand. Baryshnikof would promptly remind you no hands, a reminder that you remembered. He had no problem stepping up onto a covered arm and rewarding you with a wolf whistle. He was blind in one eye so you needed to move slowly on his good side. Over the past two years his health has deteriorated with fatty liver disease. Two weeks ago he began limping and his legs swelled. Arthritis had set in quickly and very severely, meds were tried over the past 10 days which offered no relief. The only time he was calm was when he resting in Shelly's lap. Shelly made the decision today to let him go. He was a bit of a bully here and womanizer so I'm sure the girls are already swarming him at the rainbow bridge and he's chasing the boys away. Fly pain free little man.
