Just wanted to share some pictures of my babies.

Junior, my 10 year old white lab. (I have had him since he was 6 weeks old)

Cena, my 6 year old white miniature poodle. (I rescued him 4 years ago from an abusive/neglectful situation where his ears were severely mutilated
at the hands of some EVIL person)

Marshmallow my 3 year old white DLH cat. (I have had her since she was 6 weeks old. I found her & her male littermate, who passed away from flea infestation/anemia, under a bush in my yard. She is actually long haired but I groom her to be short haired)

Sugar, my 6 year old G2. (I am her 3rd & FINAL home. I have had her for a year & I have still not figured out why her previous owners could even fathom giving her up. She is a joy in our lives & she makes everyone laugh & act silly. I can't imagine life without her!)

These are my babies that have crossed over the rainbow bridge. They are all holding a piece of my heart until we meet again...

Red the Syrian Hamster. (Lived for 8 years! That has to be some kind of a record for a hamster....right? I have NO idea but I do know I never met anyone who had a hamster live that long. LoL)

Juliette my first bird and the reason I fell in love with birds. She was the most beautiful Cockatiel that I ever layed eyes on. I acquired her as a young adult when my neighbor passed away leaving her behind to her daughter who wanted NOTHING to do with her.
She had no name & a filthy cage with no toys only food, water, & a couple perches. She had no age but I had her for 19 years. Made a day trip to Richmond, Va and when I got home she had passed. Worst day ever.

Romeo. A white face Cockatiel that I found in the hospital parking lot, spent $800 to try to save him & he died 5 minutes from the Avian vet's office (which is an hour away from me in Roanoke, Va & the ONLY Avian Vet in my area & they are on call 24/7 for emergencies) after only having him for a couple weeks. During those few days he was found to have some sort of obstruction that was causing him to struggle to breathe. My AV intubated his lung so he could breathe on his own & sent me home with FOUR medications to be administered 2-4 times per day. After 2 days, the breathing issues returned & I was only 5 minutes from my AV when he stopped breathing. Honestly, I think the stress of a complete strangers (me, the AV, AV staff, etc...) handling him for the emergency visits, then multiple med doses everyday. It was all too much for him. Although my intentions were good I can't help but feel like I should have left him free in that parking lot to die in the sweet air of freedom rather than stuck in a cage terrified for his life. He was a fighter but it was his time to fly.

Thank you for taking the time to look. I look back on my life 10 years ago when I brought my very first dog, Junior the Lab, home. He was the breed I wanted, the gender I wanted, the color I wanted, the. age I wanted, and the best part...he was free to a good home & I was poor. Who would have known that would be the FIRST & LAST animal that I chose to bring home. The rest chose ME! From all my forever animals to the ones who have just passed thru for a brief rehab period they all somehow tugged my heartstrings in just the right way, as to let me know they would be coming home to live with me forever or if they would just be passing through until they could get healthy enough to find a forever home. I would not be the person I am today without the knowledge these animals have passed to me, each & every one has offered me a gift of information & experience that is unique to their species. They bring a joy to my life that can not be replaced. Rescue animals fixed my soul when I didn't even know it was broken!! smile

Thank you for taking in rescue animals. Too many need homes.
Even my medical alert Service Dog was a rescue and now he rescues me several times a week.

I'm glad they'll have me!! Sometimes I think I am actually the rescue, they saw how bad I needed to take care of them the way they should be taken care of and they took full advantage of the resources they had available to save me from....boredom? wink LoL. My latest challenge? An incontinent senior lab with bad arthritis, cataracts, and complete hearing loss. He seems so happy to be falling apart with age. He still thinks he is a puppy, he just can't get up on/in anything without a lift (which is not easy with a 100 lb lab...did I mention he is obese? He is a trash digger/vacuum cleaner/food stealer if left unattended on his level which happens at LEAST 3 times a day when you have a 7 year old son) and it takes a minute for him to get up and sometimes he doesn't make it outside to use the restroom. All I have to say is thank the good Lord above for creating the person who invented hard wood floors!! wink
