Bengaluru, May 24: A 15-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide after his mother set free his pet birds. K. Kumar, of Marenahalli Tank area in Jayanagar, was found hanging in his room Sunday evening.
The suicide was discovered when Kumar’s family members peeped through the window of the room after they got no response from him till late in the evening.
According to the police, Kumar, a 10th standard student, had kept a couple of love birds and parrots as pets in bamboo cages in his room. “His mother and others family members were opposed to keeping the birds as pets as they littered the room. On Sunday morning, when Kumar went to take bath, his mother opened the cage and set the birds free,” a Jayanagar police officer said.
When he learnt about this an upset Kumar locked himself inside his room. He also refused to have lunch.
“His family thought that he would get over the incident by evening and left him alone. But when he refused to come out of the room even by evening, they grew anxious and peeped through the window of Kumar’s room,” the officer said.
The body has been sent to Kims for an autopsy.
