Hi everyone, I am Sharon and as a few days ago am fostering a 12 year old female U2 with a prolapse problem. With that condition, any activity that causes her to strain causes the tissue to protrude and it must be lubricated and pushed back in and there is the issue of infection etc. She may or may not live out a normal lifespan. That said, she has not been very vocal until this afternoon. I noticed she kept picking at her feet and there were raw spots. I looked in her cage and saw that she had been chewing on her round wooden perch and I think her feet were bothering her, possibly a splinter. I took out the perch and put a large boing in and when she saw it she had a fit. Screaming a lot. I have spent all evening trying to calm her so she would not prolapse. Finally I showed her I was taking the offending boing out, putting the perch back, smooth side up and offered my profound apologies. Silly I know, but she is soooo smart. She was still screaming on and off and I cuddled and loved and that only got her sexually stirred up which also causes prolapse. I have never been into catering to every whim of anything but I kind of need to here. I finally wrapped her in a towel and hugged her to me like a baby and yes, rocked her and she finally settled down some. I then put her back in her cage and covered her with a quilt and turned the light out. Tonight I feel like I need to read everything about U2's on the internet. Sorry this is wordy but does anyone have any suggestion, experience, etc about this situation. Thanks

Hi Sharon! Bless you for taking her in. Is this bird under the care of an avian vet?

Prolapse is very serious and an experienced Avian Vet is critical! I agree with EM~ Bleass you for taking her in but this can be painful and can get worse in a hurry. Please let us know what the vet has said and what the plan of action is. There is a surgical option~ wonder if that has been explored??? Where are you located? How did you come across this feathered angel?
Glad you found us!
