Last night, Carly, my sweet little grey faced 'tiel when to Rainbow Bridge. She's a rescue who I've had for 5 years. She's always been a chronic egg layer and her last "lay" seemed to take a real toll on her body. The last egg was laid without any kind of shell - it was simply encased in membrane. She's always been supplemented with Calcionate and calcium blocks.
A couple of days ago, she started showing her normal signs of getting ready to lay - very wattery poops and "I could just tell". She was still eating, pooping and giving her toys hell.
Yesterday, all she wanted to do was be with me - spending most of the day on my shoulder, playing with my necklace and earring. She had a nice dinner and when I put her to bed, I gave her an extra kiss and told her how much mommy loves her.
She was gone when I got up this morning. She looked like she went peacefully. I did notice some "discharge" on the bottom of the cage, so it's more than likely that she was trying to pass and egg and her little body just couldn't do it any longer.
She will be missed and I know that she was met at Rainbow Bridge by so many loving souls, so I feel comfortable knowing that she's fine where she is.
Fly free Carly. Mommy misses you!

If there has to be a last day, I can think of no better way than spending it with the one you love, and being told in return how much you are loved. Beautifully said, John! Mel, I know your heart is hurting, as mine is for you. You gave Carly the very best life had to offer, including your undying devotion and love. There is a new, brightly lit star in the heavens now. Fly free sweet Carly.

I am sorry, Mel. I know it hurts. I think I remember when you adopted Carly. Wasn't it from an elderly person who thought she was "too noisy"?
It sounds like she had a wonderful life with you, and will be missed.

No matter how tiny they are, our love for them is unmeasurable. I am so happy that you had a wonderful last day together. Many hugs and prayers that your heart heals quickly. Carly was one of the lucky little angels, she knew human love and kindness. She flew home happily.

Thank you everyone! Even tho' she was little, she still was a big presence in the house. Bird room seems a bit empty. She's buried outside in the rose garden and I just bought a regal geranium to plant for her.
B101, I actually got her from a family who's young son had some kind of hearing problem and they said she made too much noise for him to handle. They were going to toss her out the window if I didn't pick her up that day.
