I tried to join, but the button to "join group" wasn't there. How do I get in without the "join group" option?

Hmmmm, that's odd. Are you logged on to Facebook???

ETA: The "join" button is under the "Born to be Wild" picture on the right side of your screen.

It has view discussion board, invite friends and leave group. Those are the only options.

Now it's showing me as a member. I don't know how that happened, but I'll take it. Thanks. Jackie

I'm puzzled....I'm a Facebook member and have joined our FB group, but nothing ever happens there - no comments, no discussions, etc. In fact, the comments Erin and I made have disappeared. Is our FB group only for the purpose of getting people to join this board?

It is a networking platform to educate people to the plight of captive parrots and the rescue community and to show support for our beliefs (our agenda). Many people will only find Mytoos.com and/or the forum if they are searching for information on cockatoos. Facebook users can find us in the Groups listing, as well as our FB friends can be led to the site by looking at what groups individuals belong to. There is also a "share" icon on the group page that will transfer the groups avatar and "mission" to your Facebook page, making it easy for all your friends to find us.

As to why any comments are gone, I haven't a clue. But everyone can feel free to comment or start/participate in discussions. Detailed discussions on the care of cockatoos, should continue to stay here in the forums, IMO. Remember, this forum is an open book - meaning membership is not required to access all forums and all topics. Unlike most other bird forums, we do not have members only, or any hidden forums, forcing people to join just to read. Here at Mytoos, membership is required for posting only.

Thanks EM...I have a better understanding now. And we all joined just for networking purposes - is that right?

That would be up to each individual person to answer. Why did you join Pat? Do you have suggestions/comments on what you would like to see within the group? How about the rest of you???

In addition to the networking possibilities and the ability to educate non-cockatoo owners about the plight of these magnificent birds in captivity, I think it's just plain fun to get to know some of our familiar Mytoos friends on a little more personal basis. What a shock to find out that we all have lives and interests outside of our birds grin!

We do? ROFL!!!!

I agree with you Annette - on all points. And my friend list has grown considerably since we opened the group.

I also agree with Annette. It's nice to be able to chat w/ members and see what everybody else is up to. I'm very happy you opened this group.

I've been a member of Facebook for awhile but I have to confess I never really "got it". Never had any experience with message boards, groups, online friends, etc. so I joined our new group to give me some incentive and it has worked. I think what I'd like to do is start a discussion about who we are (briefly) and the kind of bird(s) we have. I think that might be fun and would help with finding "friends". How do you all decide who to ask? Or do you make everyone your friend? See, I told you I was just learning
and am a bit confused.
