3/30/2009 @ 3:00 PM egg #5 delivered inside the "nest" this time. Ozark is roosting almost continually. I do see her eat and drink and will take food from my hand.

4-2-2009 @ 3:04 PM egg #6 delivered inside the nest Ozark is roosting continuously. Except for food/water/droppings. The egg is clean and the 'under carriage' looks fine.

CHARLIE SAID.....could be 7 to 8 eggs in a clutch.....LOL

OOPPSS, I forgot to mention, a phone call is going in to the DVM on Monday.

Are you moving the location of the cage frequently? Changing up in the inside of the cage frequently? Decreasing the number of light hours? You may need to separate them. Even though they are of the same sex, if they are bonded to one another it may be the trigger.

Honestly, I believe that some medical advice/intervention is in order.

4-6-2009 Egg #8 is the size of a finch egg. Hopefully, this is the start of the end. She still seems fine..but still gong to phone the DVM.

Yeah I think I would be taking her in as well in case she is running low on something.Good luck and changing things up really can help allot.A friend that works in a group home called me a few months ago asking how to get their tiel to stop laying because she was laying every couple of days for months and that is all it took.I told them as soon as she starts laying to change all the toys and cage location and it seems to be helping her allot. It is so hard on these little guys.

Moving my Tiels cages daily and switching toys has really helped us. Our Lucy hasnt laid any eggs since I started doing this.

9-17-2010 Shasta has a beautiful clean firm white egg, her bottom is closed and clean. Unlike last go around she is setting the egg already and guarding it like a hawk. Ozark is staying at the other end of the cage. I think I'd better buy a cage for her while this is going on. Territory issues are running high. While I'm glad that that their world is right enough for them to produce, I wish they'd find another way to show it. I have all the toys out of the cage (that's how she showed her little hawk) and will move the cage into another room. Time to get the Fake Eggs out of storage.

Thanks for the input Janny and FeatheredAngels.

9-25-2010 I did slip a fake egg in (her nest is a stainless steel food bowl) later in the afternoon of the one egg being laid. To date there has only the one egg laid. Shasta is still sitting the 'eggs.' Ozark is in an acrylic cockatiel cage next to her usual cage. Whew.

10-2-2010 We still only have one real egg and one fake egg. Shasta is beginning to come away from the 'nest' more often.

Awesome that she has not laid another egg, good work!!! I know I also worry when Lucy starts laying frown. She laid one egg early last month some time and so I started in moving her cage etc. Kept activity up daily and so far (knock on wood) no second egg. Fortunately Lucy never wants to sit on her eggs, but if one is removed she will lay another.

10-10-2010 @ 1600hrsOH SHOOT! egg #2 it wasn't there a little while ago. This was laid on the bottom grate and broken, bloody with the contents on the newspaper. She must have had trouble. The egg looked a bit larger then her usual ones. Her bottom is a little dirty but I will give her a little time to rest and clean her up. I put a fake egg in with the other fake egg and real one. She's still setting the eggs. cry

Sounds like a vet trip should be in order. That's an awful lot of eggs in under a year. I would be very concerned with her calcium levels, also concerned with the large size of the egg causing a prolapse. Hopefully she will stop laying before any trouble starts.

Ok honestly...have you taken this little one to the vet at all since I suggested on September 16th?This egg laying business is hard enough on the larger birds but even more so on the smaller ones because their bodies deplete allot faster than you think. This is not something to be messing around with.My guess the reason she went the time she did between eggs is because she had allot of trouble passing it.

4-6-2009 was the last egg laying....17 months ago...and Shasta has only laid 2 eggs in a month. 24 days apart.

Several of the flock have scheduled well bird check-ups tomorrow. (Last February 2010 I spent $4000.00 on the whole flock having well bird exams.) Shasta wasn't one of them that was going tomorrow because she's sitting on one real egg and one fake egg, but she will be taking Ozark's place now.

Thank you for keeping up with my posts and contributing your expertise and time.
