Nooooooo, I'm not inventive at all. My friend Melanie sent me the first dress design. I just had to get a little creative in making the breast plate and pouch.

Before getting the first dress from Mel, I downloaded the Sock Buddy efile, and all I could think of was "yeah right" - good luck getting that on with a new bird!!

Here is a picture of the first one Mel sent me to give you an idea of how it's made:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/Echosmom/Sweater001-1.jpg

Mel used snap tape, but I didn't have any success in finding it so I used velcro. Both work great, but the velcro is quicker to fasten - meaning quicker to get on. There is definitely a technique to getting them on, especially with a new bird whose just learning to trust you, but it went very well considering.

The side you see with the snaps is the front with slits for the legs and on the backside you can't see the snaps so when it's fastened they are hidden (just like the velcro is).

The seam going down the middle of the back caught my eye. I was wondering if that could rub her skin and irritate it?

Nope, the entire dress is loose fitting enough as to not constrict her airways. And the seams is very soft, but not taunt against her body. The design and size got the thumbs up from my AV. Our primary area of concern is her chest, which is why I made the chest plate for added protection. smile

Yeah there is no way that dress is going to cause her any more havok than the dressings that were on her in the begining. IMHO this dress is totally ideal considering how those dressings would have felt.

I think Noelle likes the dress. I hope her need to mutilate ends soon.

What a little fashion icon! She even accessorizes to match her crest!!

Is she tolerating the changing of them a bit better?

She is adorable and you can see that pout in her face..typical little girl wearing a dress that mom wants her to wear and she doesn't!

Glad she is doing well!

Bless you Em..

Regarding the "chest plate" I know is sounds weird but have you thought about an organic female hygiene pad? Its soft against her skin but also firm enough she cant pierce her skin through it..

No I hadn't but that's a good idea. I do have the chest plate completely encased in sweatshirt fabric though so it's not against her skin. I am going to try your suggestion though - THANKS!

She looks fantastic...Coco used to mutilate badly, and I made a little dress for her. it's been almost 7 months now without any mutilation although she's still a plucker! lol...I'm just wondering how you get her wings through the holes? My design was different, I made three ties on mine.

The sleeve is cut to the cuff on both sides and is fastened with velcro under each wing.

(This particular pictures shows snap tape, but they didn't hold. You can see the ridge of the snap tape on the opposite side, underneath).

Those are for her legs to go through. Here's a full body shot of the dress on.
