I was snooping around. Charlie, you never mentioned this video before. (I was looking for a better link to the cockatoo bathing article)

Mytoos photostory

Very powerful. Your choice of music was excellent. Lump in my throat again.

Thanks to both of you.

I made that photostory quite some time ago for mytoos. It still gets me crying to watch it.

The song is by James Blunt.

I agree~ there must be some way to get the word out more; this is so powerful. Even the ignorant and "not nice" would have to get it after seeing this.

There are many, many people out there who have their heads firmly planted up their butts. As long as there is a dollar to be made, someone will breed birds and someone will come up with excuses as to why it's OK. There are lots of human beings on this planet who are just a waste of oxygen especially those who think animals are here for our amusement.

I think I've watched that video before so I'll wait until I'm home before I watch it again.

OH! That video made me cry and feel sad all day.I couldn't even finish watching it. That really needs to get out to say PetSmart and others. Utube even... Next to the one with the dancing "Snowball". It sure ain't all fun and fluff... And it's all of our worst nightmares.

This video needs to be placed out there. Youtube, facebook, myspace...

I can thread it into myspace if I can create a code for a player to turn it into a bulletin. I'll post it in the bird groups, and on my profile. May I?

Yes for sure you can.

I have to admit I am not able to view this slide show anymore as I do not have a windows based program anymore.I run an IMac and haven't found a way to see it since I made it pretty much. I can listen to the music but that is all.

Hi,

I haven't been here for a while but I just have to watch this movie each time I'm here. It turns me into a wreak every time, but I believe we can never see it too many times. I was a bit stressed over a bite Rocco gave me on my lip the other day, but that's nothing compared to what these birds have lost through no fault or choice of their own.

I bought a Mac recently so I downloaded the movie and converted to Quicktime format. It's a bit large, so I'm trying to compress it a bit more without compromising quality. As soon as it's ready I can provide a download link for you.

With permission, I'd like to put it on Youtube as well as my own web site, once it's ready.

Walter

Yes for sure that is great Walter...be my guest.

I used Dave's laptop to watch it again today and was tearing up the whole time.I looked over at Dave and he was tearing up too.I had forgotten the emotions that photo story drums up when your watching it.

I may do another one and put our Diva Doll Noelle and few other in there as well. Using the same music of course because that song just seems to do something to a person. When and if I ever get around to it I will post it here as well.

I have been trying to read this whole board this past week. My husband came in to find me bawling. He says I have to stop reading before I convert our whole place into a bird house. But, everytime I show him one he wants to get it too.

I wish I was a smarter person that could do more.

WOW, I can only say how sad I am to see this video. It made me swell up it tears and now the tought will be with me forever. Is this a good thing? Yes. It makes sure I do what is right for my Too, no matter what the cost is, no matter how much time is needed from my day, no matter...

Thank you for that video.

I am on a PC. unfortanetly it looks like this might be a unique problem to me only... Again. While I can play and hear the majority of things on the internet, I do run into problems occasionally. I will have to do even more digging into this to isolate the cause for sure, but it is one of 2 things; my ISP blocks some things to prevent 'over use', specifically they do not like netflix, and my theory is the code they wrote to slow that site down overlaps into other unintended sites. Or I need a sound card driver update (which I doubt).

I wish I could get this on disc, I went to the pet store tonight to get some dog food and of course picked up a parrot toy or two. The checkout girl asked what kind of bird I had and she said "oh we are so excited, we are going to get a big bird, a cockatoo soon from our breeder and we all just cant wait". well, I sort of went off on her, ranting about cockatoos and how there were thousands of birds at the rescue where I got riley and how they all cried for attention when I walked by and how so many pet store birds are purchased by people who just want something pretty to look at and show off to their friends and eventually end up suffering in rescues. I know I scared her but somebody needed to tell her the truth.

Oh my gosh, my brain has left my body! how is the little foo-meister? I still have scars on my thumb from her. I hope she is doing well, she was a beautiful girl. I had a friend with me when I first met her who had never even been close to a bird and they sat on the couch with her and she immediately ran across my friends lap to chase another bird, scared poor christy to death. we still laugh about that. the day i asked her if she wanted to go home with me she bit me 3 times, needless to say i got the message. I would love to hear how she is doing.

I believe that when a bird is suffering as this, it is only humane to know that they will never, never recover -- they are psychologically so traumatized that it is indeed Irreversible. As hard as it is to let go, for their sake, it is better for them to be euthanized than continue in such hell. And, I do not believe in euthanization -- unless-- there is nothing else to do. I love, love my cockatoo, but if I would not let him continue living in such horrific conditions. Unfortunately, they have suffered so greatly, my heart breaks and breaks over and over again when I see photos such as these.

CM I wholeheartedly and respectfully disagree - euthanization is NOT the answer, and I have 2 chronic self-mutilators that I'm sure would agree as well. Until the day comes that they tell me they have had enough...putting them down is not an option.

To say that you need to euthanize every mutilator because they are psychologically suffering is very wrong. You might as well euthanize every companion bird if that is your idea and belief because every bird in captivity suffers some just show it other ways. Many mutilators start out that way but it does become a chronic habit that is hard to stop after they are given a quality of life again.A person starts chewing their nails for example because it's a way to cope with stress.....they may never stop because it's a habit but the stress could be removed and they are larger than life happy...sometimes and most times they don't even know they are doing it.It's the same with a human that self mutilates...even people that are happy in their life that have everything they need to be happy can and will still mutilate after treatments and therapy out of plain habit and obsessive compulsion and not because they are unhappy. It becomes an ingrained habit and addiction and often times is never really gone even though for brief moments the behavior might dissipate.

When a bird has mutilated to the point of the injuries being so severe you can not repair or heal or their health is compromised then yes I agree a decision must be made but if the mutilator still has a good quality of life them why would you? There are shirts to protect them, wraps, soft collars, may things have been made and proven to work! Most birds are very comfortable in them and they are not cruel!

Any time euthanasia is considered it can not be judged or broad stroked by any single person but the ones making it and living it. It needs to be based on quality of life vs quantity. You can not say just because a bird mutilates it needs to die. I have Grown to love a couple of mutilators on this very board who have a great quality of life and they are chronic mutilators....they have a right to live and do not need to die just because they have an obsession to mutilate. They are happy, loving life and spoiled rotten!

This is such a sad but true video..makes my heart break, but at the same time it reminds me of the commitment that i made when i got cedrick, and she is a loving lovable bird, but she wants and requires alot of attention, that i freely give her, but yes people that think they are beautiful and they want one, really need to research and see how much time and effort goes into loving these beautiful loving creatures....its like having a demanding needy baby for the rest of your life, so be sure you are ready to commit before you say you want a bird...

Wow... sometimes I'm ashamed to be a human.

If people are still having trouble viewing on Mac's dump that Quicktime nonsense! If you're on a PC dump windows media player! VLC media player will run it and just about any other format of video. Go to Videolan.org and you shouldn't run into anymore issues with any videos in the future.

Truly amazing and powerful. So sad that we've done this to these beautiful souls. Breaks my heart. I can't not look at our babies and smile. When you look into a toos eyes it really is like you're looking into their beautiful souls

Its obvious that those birds were neglected, I have a U2 & a LSC2 & they are treated like a king and queen. We can't stop domestic breeding, but if someone gets one they have to do all the research & make a commitment to the bird and then if they decide they made a mistake then find someone (this board is full of too lovers) that can & will make the commitment to give the bird a great home & life. Education is the key here, these are wonderful birds.

Plucking and mutilating does happen to some neglected birds but also to some that are not. It happens because these birds are not meant to be in captivity. No matter what we offer and supply our birds it's not a normal life and never will be. Frustration from hormones is one prime example. The bird bonds to a human so is never able to do what they are hard wired to do. Many of these birds are not aware that they are birds and not human. It's very sad and as your birds get older and mature you will see what I'm talking about. I see it with Cassie who is 9 and very hormonal right now. I'm sure we will see eggs again this fall and winter. We will watch her moods escalate through joy, frustration, hormonal, anger, aggression and I think even depression. This year she even started doing some plucking on her legs during her molt. It seems to be leveling off as her molt is ending. The fact that she doesn't have a mate to help her with the molt I'm sure contributes. All very sad to watch and understand why. Our lives revolve around Cassie's needs, she always comes first. Many of the members here have similar experiences.
