When I left home last week, we were going through 1-1/2 gallons of sugar water a day trying to feed as many migrant hummers as we could. Peg says they are tapering off now and we are expecting our wintering birds soon. I just finished putting together my 2008 album for all hummer fans out there. smile

Charlie great pics! I wish we got that many up here. I did see more than usual this year though. I love the hummers. Amazing little creatures.

I can't imagine how long it took and how many shots to capture these images.

To heck with writing a book. I know professional photographers that can't hold a candle to these shot

BLEW ME AWAY!!!!!

Thank you!

Those shots are not in perfect focus but those moments do not last long either! One throws away 95% of the shots. That's what's nice about digital. whistle

The depth of field really makes the birds stand out. And the lighting!!!!! the hardest part.

Your in the wrong business Charlie.

Question. Did you shoot RAW and tweak them yourself?

Breath-taking pictues! Just beautiful! Yes, most or all of the migrating birds have flown the coop here. I love it when they come back in the Spring and stop in at my Bird Bed & Breakfast! LOL

Charlie,
Those are such beautiful pictures. I grew up loving hummingbirds. We got the same ones year after year and got to know them well. We had to put out feeders quite some distance apart because some would get so territorial and run the others off. One male died defending 2 different feeders that couldn't be seen at the same time. He would fly like mad between the two running off any other birds. He flew into our porch roof and died. We had had him for years and it was so sad to me. We don't seem to have hummingbirds where I live now. I don't know why - I am close to where I grew up only about 2 hours away. Maybe next year we will try harder to attract them. Thanks for the reminders of these beautiful creatures.

I wish that I had a picture of a painting that my cousin did of hummingbirds. He is an artist. I do have one of the bluebirds that he did.

That painting reminds me so much of an Audubon rendering. Your cousin is indeed an artist! I do sell selected, detailed hummingbird feather photographs to a sculptor who carves hummingbirds from wood and paints them. They are beautiful; I will have to get a photo of his work. He uses my photographs to study and improve his technique and accuracy. Quite fun actually! grin
