My name is Amanda and I just adopted my first cockatoo. I have researched this type of bird for years. Honestly, I have wanted one since I was a little girl. Finally, at 31, I have my baby, Mickey! She does not come w/o her problems, but she will be my one and only for the rest of her life, or mine, whichever comes first. I love all the info I have already rec'd from this site, and I am looking forward to much more. Thank you to all of you that have opened your homes and hearts to these wonderful yet difficult, special birds.
She is an umbrella 'too I just adopted her 8/12/08. She hasn't had a good life so far and she's supposedly 4yo. I know I have my work cut out for me. I just spent 6 hours really cleaning her cage that obviously has never been deep cleaned before. She was living on a diet of peanuts and corn. She started plucking last December, but she still has her down. Hopefully, with a proper diet, the right attention, no smoking in the house and better attention, she will stop. I know she may not, and it's only been a few days, but so far so good. Thanks for listening and I look forward to talking to all of you.
