I've been playing music for our two birds for the last several months, first starting with making CD's but then when the cheap CD player/clock radio wouldn't play the CD's anymore I realized I could plug an ipod into it and make a playlist that lasts all day. They seem to like kids music which is animated and the kids cute voices.

For the last 45 minutes or so I have a bunch of lullabies to quiet things down a bit. This one which was from the movie Lady and the Tramp, La La Lu is so pretty. And the words seem perfect for the birds. I found it in iTunes store. So now I sing it to them along with the music each night before they go to sleep while they're getting their hugs and pets.

La La Lu

La la lu
La la lu
Oh, my little star sweeper
I'll sweep the stardust for you

La la lu
La la lu
Little soft fluffy sleeper
Here comes a pink cloud for you

La la lu
La la lu
Little wandering angel
Fold up your wings, close your eyes

La la lu
La la lu
And may love be your keeper

What a sweet ending to the day. I think I'll add it to my evening repertoire as well. I also like Dumbo's lullaby, I used to sing it to my son at bedtime.

Baby Mine
From "Dumbo"
Music and lyrics by Frank Churchill and Ned Washington

Baby mine, don't you cry
Baby mine, dry your eyes
Rest your head close to my heart
Never to part, baby of mine

Little one when you play
Don't you mind what they say
Let those eyes sparkle and shine
Never a tear, baby of mine

If they knew sweet little you
They'd end up loving you too
All those same people who scold you
What they'd give just for
The right to hold you

From your head to your toes
You're not much, goodness knows
But you're so precious to me
Cute as can be, baby of mine

This is the one I sing to my girls and my birds:

Artist: Dixie chicks
Song: Lullaby
Album: Taking The Long Way

they didn't have you where i come from
never knew the best was yet to come
life began when i saw your face
and i hear your laugh like a serenade

Chorus:
how long do you want to be loved
is forever enough, is forever enough
how long do you want to be loved
is forever enough
cause i'm never, never giving you up

i slip in bed when you're asleep
to hold you close and feel your breath on me
tomorrow there'll be so much to do
so tonight i'll drift in a dream with you

Chorus

as you wander through this troubled world
in search of all things beautiful
you can close your eyes when you're miles away
and hear my voice like a serenade

Chorus

how long do you want to be loved
is forever enough, is forever enough
how long do you want to be loved
is forever enough
cause i'm never, never giving you up
is forever enough
cause i'm never, never giving you up

. . . we also like "Ripple" by the Grateful Dead, and "Dedicated to the One I Love" by the Mama's and the Papa's.

I found a recording of La la lu on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pu04udtHP1U

I sing the song to Gilligan and Amelie every night now before they go to sleep. I have a couple different recordings of it, one a music box version that I found on iTunes. http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSto...amp;i=267429738
