What's a girl to do?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa43/spinnyspoo/WinterBill.jpg

I started making him a couple 'sweaters' so that we could still go out. He does go with us all over the place, but he was getting a little shivery. He's a shivery guy in the winter. I just made them out of the sleeve of an old sweater that I got too fat for. cut it up the side and tied a ribbon around the bottom to hold the 'back' on.

Looks great!Very GQ or should I say very CQ! laugh

Since my Nadia is outside quite a bit,I might try the same thing.
I was wondering how long he was wearing it before you took the pic?
He looks quite comfy and stylish.Has he added any'ventilation'to your original design?

He has tried to add ventilation. Mostly around the neck. I'm trying to distract him when he starts chewing. I'll try to get a pic of it without the bird inside. It's pretty easy. When we're outside he doesn't chew as much on it.

Snug as bug in a rug! LOL!! That is sooo groovy! We in Oz take so much for granted! How did Bill take to his new sweater when you first put it on, did he complain? He looks so at home in it, like it's just what Too's do in the snow grin

He complains a lot when it's going on and when it's coming off. If he's kept busy he doesn't try to get off. It's a hard life being a little white bird.

Neat. Ripley, my Amazon, likes outings and we still take her out in winter, but it has to be places where there isn't a long walk outside involved. i.e. we have to be able to park close to the door. Her down gets really thick this time of year. I don't think she'd tolerate a sweater, but I've noticed that cockatoos are more likely to tolerate having things touching their bodies (harnesses, etc.)

I fostered a Quaker who had a bald chest for a while, and I felt bad that he couldn't go outside often up here.

The dry air around here is a problem in the winter too. Everyone needs more showers, but they don't mind at all.

Oh you're in the heart of winter aren't you! I remember how dry the air was in edmonton. Sask too. I remember using a tub of lip stuff every hour practically!! We're only at - worst case... -5. This is one of the warmest winter places I've lived. I think if we were seeing -double digits a sweater wouldn't suffice either.

Maybe a felted wool cape! Or I'd bundle him up in my coat.

Bill barely tolerates the sweater. We're workin' on it.

I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate clicker training with the sweater. Lene? anyone clickering have any ideas?

He likes to eat it. Just a little at a time. He doesn't like it on his head.

I was thinking of the prairies. I do a lot of work with wool and alpaca. I was thinking that a little felted woolen cape or 'bag' might actually be the way to go.

Although in Sask I'd think you'd not be going out so much. Call me crazy. Just the feeling of the air freezing in my nose hairs drives me nuts. I don't understand how all of you prairie people aren't always rubbing your noses!!!

I do hybernate for the winter.lol.Aside from the grocery shopping and other very much needed things I pretty much stay home.It wouldn't be so bad but the wind just blows right through you.We won't take our birds out in the winter unless it is an emergency. We have had to buy full spectrum lighting for the winter months.I do bring in a pan of snow and let the birds check it out though. They love it!I don't let them play in it for long I am too scarred it is too cold for them.Bailey the M2 loved it the most.He hopped right in flinging snow all over.lol.He loves to watch me shovel the snow.Go figure. He squabbles and chatters through the windows at me and just chuckles when I throw it up high and let it fall.lolPeople would think I was nuts if they couldn't see him in the window.lol.

The bag would probably work.

hmmm... a bag with a hood.

We just had 2 days of snow.. we got about 35cm. Now it's warmed up to 12 and the wind is going nuts outside and we're expecting 70-120ml of rain. Down the road will be washed out soon if they don't get a ditchwitch in to clear out the ditches.

This is what we do when it's horrible and stormy outside. I came home to find this:

I am sure Canada is cold but what about Alaska? I know that AlaskaToos and some others are from there where it really gets cold like up in Fairbanks. I cannot imagine what it must be like there. I am nice and warm in Georgia, thank you.

I used to live on the Queen Charlotte islands (Haida Gwaii). You could SEE Alaska from there.

Many parts of Canada get as cold as Alaska RB2sMom as our northern territories go pretty far into the Arctic past Alaska I believe. Now I'm going to have to go get a map...

okay, I looked... Ellesmere Island and the archipelago around it almost touches the arctic circle.

It's not the most populated area of Canada for sure...

I like cool weather and really love snow it's the heat I can't handle. I grew up in Texas and lived in New Mexico for four years and it was DARN hot. Every summer I felt like I was going to melt away. Forget about A/C in your car because it would rarely cool the car off before you got to wherever it was you were going. Forget about swimming to cool off at least for me any way because I always got the worst sun burns.

I'm sitting here going oh my god I couldn't do it! I want to move to southern Florida where it's hot all year long. I live in New England and hate the cold. Today the high in Boston was 29 with a wind chill around 10. I was carrying my hand warmers around with me all day. The leopards water started freezing after only 10 minutes. I can never get warm enough no matter how many layers I put on. I walk around looking like a toasted Staypuff guy with my brown carharts over my insulated sweat shirt, regular sweatshirt, uniform shirt and long underwear! And I'm still cold! If I lived near you guys I would order everything delivered to my house once September rolled around and not leave the house until May!!! Nancy
