The story is rather heart breaking, but it sounds like they are in pretty good hands now and might even better off with a little help from 'too friends like us. laugh

I also did my part last night in helping these poor birds, and like everyone else I invited them to the board.

I very much hope that they decide to join our group.

I did the same thing -- purchased a picture and also one of the Smithsonian Institute Travelogues that she had for sale in her store. I also invited her to join mytoos. Hope she does! What a wonderful thing for her to do for those birds! What a feel-good story to end our week with!

Sometimes it's so hard for me to handle how people treat animals. I'd like to lock them in a cage and leave them outside with a few seeds. I'm so glad someone who cares got them.

I'm awaiting my picture as well.

Hello everyone, and Gilligan, Mary Ann and myself appreciate the invite. I am trying to familarize myself with this site, and it may take awhile. But, in the mean time I wanted to share some wonderful news about both Gilligan and Mary Ann! First of all, I noticed a small antena like thing on Gilligan's head which has turned out to be the beginnings of one of those large head feathers! And, if that wasn't exciting enough, Mary Ann has what appears to be feathers coming in on her chest! Thanks for your help, support, and invite. We look forward to sharing our story and updates with you.

I hope I can manuever back to this location without too much difficulty in finding it. Not to mention, I am trying to recover from a bad dog bite on my hand that has left me temporarily one handed - with the one working hand always busy with ten parrots, and four Shar Pei.

Where do I to introduce myself?

Thanks Everyone!

Hi, Beverly, and welcome. As you can see, you have a few fans here. We all look forward to hearing about Gilligan and Mary Ann and the feathers are a great place to start. That must make you feel great to see progress so soon.

If you came into the site by typing just MYTOOS.COM, you will be on the welcoming page (and hear the screaming Cockatoos! eek ). At the bottom of that page is a link that says "Continue to Mytoos". Clicking there will take you to the main website page. This is the page where we try to make people really think before buying a Cockatoo. At the top of that page you will have a menu of items. "Message Board" will be the middle item. Clicking on "Message Board" will bring you here to the discussion forums. As you look down the page, you will see many different categories such as General Cockatoo Discussion, Behavior, Diet, etc. There is also a section for New Member Introductions. Feel free to browse anywhere. Once you click on any category, that page will open up and you will see all the individual posts. There is a link at the top-right of the page that says "New Topic". You can click on that and write or present questions. You can also reply to a post like you did here.

I guess I'm getting a little carried away. Just browse and post at will. We will be here to guide you. Most of all, welcome. You took in quite a few birds and we have many knowledgeable people here with many kinds of birds to offer you help and assistance. smile

Got this update from Beverly today.

Update on Mary Ann and Gilligan

Gilligan has grown some crown feathers, more yellow in color as compared to Mary Ann's! And Mary Ann is becoming quite the brave girl. Her desire to get the best pickings of the food, means she needs to wait my the food bowl at feeding time or Gilligan will only let her have the leftovers. Because of this, Mary Ann's fear of people has subsided somewhat, for she'll come within a foot of me without running away to hide with Gilligan.

To read their sad story turned into a happy ending and to find a new picture, made into a greeting card, of rescued Cockatoos Mary Ann and Gilligan, please visit:

Anne, when I had dogs, I walked at all hours, in all kinds of environments. One of my professors in college had similar habits, and one morning his dogs insisted that he come with them to investigate a pile of firewood that was pretty far from any house. There was a man under that pile of wood, and he was still alive. (the wood covering was part of an attempt to kill him) He recovered and was able to identify his attackers. Convinced me that walking dogs is a worthwhile activity, even aside from any physical and mental health benefits. wink In this case, it was a public service!
