Hello all! I am new to this forum and very interested in the possibility of parrot rescue/ volunteering in my area, Collegville, PA. I am a student of Biology at Ursinus College and a part time raptor rehabber at The Raptor Trust in Millington, NJ.

If anyone has any information or advice regarding my inquiry, please feel free to e-mail me at johunt@ursinus.edu.

Thank you all for your help!

Hi Jigosan,

Incase you do not get a reply from someone who personally knows a rescue in your area; here are some in the Pa. and NJ area (I put NJ being you rehab there).

PENNSYLVANIA

Parrot Education & Adoption Center
Parrot Education & Adoption Center (PEAC) is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to educating current and potential bird owners on the proper care of pet birds. Unwanted or found parrots are accepted at PEAC. They are cared for until adopted to qualified applicants

Pet Behavior Clinic Parrot Rescue
PARROT RESCUE was founded in 1981 for birds who cannot stay in their homes. Our Parrot Rescue organization is unique in that the volunteers do not sell any birds, ever, and do not place birds in "breeding situations". Rescue birds receive medical and behavioral evaluations and then permanent homes with loving families who in many cases have other birds.

Tioga County Bird Rescue
We take in any pet bird that is unable to stay with it's owner for whatever reason. We take birds with or without cages, regardless of health. Yes, we take smaller birds like lovebirds and cockatiels too! Our motto is "WE CAN DO BETTER!"

Pittsburgh Parrot Rescue
Pittsburgh Parrot Rescue's focus is to generate support in the Pittsburgh community to create a education/rescue facility for unwanted/homeless parrots and other pet birds.

Companion Bird Connection
To Honor and Provide for an Individual Companion Bird's Quality of Life through Education, Rescue, Rehabilitation
Pyrenean Aerie Exotic Bird Rescue.
Rescue and adoption, local placement only, charges adoption fee, jeffpyr@aol.com

Novas Avian Rescue Center Eastern PA
We provide a permanent home for unwanted, abandoned, homeless birds, who for what ever reason have become to much for their owners. We provide a safe clean home, proper veterinary care, training and plenty of love and affection.

New Beginnings Avian Rescue
In affiliation with the Long Island Parrot Society, our purpose is to provide a loving home for any unwanted, neglected or abused parrots. Contact: newbeginningsforbirds@yahoo.com

Kleintops Avian Rescue Nazareth
Our mission is to help exotic birds in crisis/emergency situations such as owner illness, death, emergency relocation, abuse or neglect.

NEW JERSEY

Parrots for Love
Parrots for Love offers temporary housing and adoption of placeable birds. We also offer nutrition, bird care education and counseling to potential adopters. Boarding and bird sitting is also available. Birds are quarantined in a bird safe environment.

South Jersey Bird Club Parrot Adoption Program.
Rescue and adoption; no adoption fee; local placement only. Pat Baltozer, 856-881-9373, crbpeb@delanet.com

Wings of Hope NJ Central NJ
Wings of Hope-NJ prides itself on finding loving, experienced adoptive homes for unwanted, abused, neglected and abandoned exotics.... from birds to small critters. Unwanted exotics are accepted at WOH-NJ, and in turn are adopted out to qualified applicants.

Parrots Without People
"Parrots Without People" was created to answer the need of housing and care for orphaned or abandoned pet birds.

Thank you very much for your information M2Mom! Though i have never worked with cockatoos (or exotics) before (my specialty has always been birds of prey) i am sure i can help out in some way wheteher it means donating or simply cleaning cages i am willing to do it! I plan on getting started sometime over my spring break coming up and hope on continuing to help out wherever or when ever i can.

Welcome, Jigosan! Probably the biggest difference you'll notice working with psittacines vs. raptors, is that the "business end" of the bird is the beak, not the feet! <img border="0" alt="[laughing]" title="" src="graemlins/laugh[1].gif" /> I've sent you a PM.
