Vondooly So have you gotten it into second gear yet? Hubby was telling me they only have 2 gears. What a beauty! Nice paint job. Bet that set you back a little!
Stormy I started on a Alpha Sport 250 and last year bought a customized 96 sportster 1200. Love it but I'm short only 5'3 so can't see myself moving up. Although I'ld love to get a soft tail. Maybe if I could find it in a trike.
Harleys'Dad haven't heard from you in a while, how are you doing? I think about you often so my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Nancy,he's right about the bikes but the trikes have a 350 turbo Chevy trans automatic with three gears and reverse.I think the bikes have manual transmissions.I've only gotten it to 80mph but hubby has had it over 100mph with me on it but he has been a biker for many years and I trust his driving!I do know it will smoke most anything on the road. eekIf you are 5'3 you should try the VTX 1300 by Honda. They are sharp. We have a friend who is about your heighth and she drives a Goldwing 1800.They are balanced so well, you could too.

Hubby said the same thing! He said that I should get a Honda VTX. But I love my Harley! So for now I'll keep it until I can't hold it up anymore. Maybe five or so years. I really wish I had started riding when I was younger. It's the best way to relax, although tiring but such a rush. I have had my Harley up to 80 but was terrified. Hubby was ahead of me on the highway and not paying attention to me. He usually keeps it to below 75. I don't mind the speed but I don't have a windshield and at 80 and on a windy day I felt like I was going to be blown off the bike!!! Maybe I should move to New Hampshire "Live free or die" or my new motto "Live to ride, ride to live" LOL Nancy

You need a windshield!!!!At 80mph without one my helmet would blow off eek Yea Harley riders are very reluctant to change to another bike.Do you ever go to Daytona for Bike week or Biketoberfest? We usually go down in Oct,it's a lot calmer for old folks <img border="0" alt="[laughing]" title="" src="graemlins/laugh[1].gif" /> We are going to ride to Key West this year and end up at Daytona. We usually ride with a large group which makes me feel safer.

This past winter we went to Key West and rented bikes and drove up to Key Largo and back what a great ride! My butt was killing me though! I rented a Fat Boy. Won't ever be getting one of them. I haven't been to any bike weeks yet. Hopefully next year we will be going to Americade in upstate NY. Thats for old folks too! We want to get a trailer so that we can take the bikes on more vacations. Hubby wants to do the Dragon soon. I'm not so sure I'm up for that! Nancy

If oyur talking about the Dragons Tail in the Smokies,it's awesome fun.We were there in March of this year,I've got pix here somewhere of the station with the tree of shame, very cute.We really enjoy riding in the Smokies. We try to go to Shades of the Past every year and see all the antique cars.My husband is retired on disability and so we have the time to travel. We load up our horse trailer and take off. laugh

Just wanted to say, I am only 5'3" also. My Victory was lowered 2" and all the controls were pulled back about the same amount. Works Great!
I loved my Sporty too - but then I test rode the Vegas at an open house - that was IT. I sold Lucy (Sportster) and bought Jewel (Vegas).

I agree about the windshield though - without it I get such a neck ache and I tire very quickly. I vote yes on the windshield. You will be very happy once you get it!

Maybe I'll let him talk me into doing the dragon's tail. It looks awful scary though. Nancy

Saw a pickup truck with a fun sticker a few days ago: "Harleys do NOT leak oil. They just mark their spot". I bet this goes for the feathered kind too, right Ralph? laugh
