today i was having a turkey sandwich i cooked some green beans and potato. i then gave henry a plate of green beans and a little turkey to see if fhe would eat the turkey. she looked at the plate and tasted the turkey and ate that rite up. and then came and climed on me and proceeded to eat out of me plate. wow it was the fullfilling thing that i felt with her. she made cooing noises while she ate. and talked softly. laugh i dont think i got a green bean pff my plate LOL.

P.S. is it wrong for the bird to eat turkey? confused

My late G2 liked meat, also. Any meat. We had a avian certified vet who thought it had been a good thing to give him some meat occasionally. He never plucked and never had any personality disorders.

I just read an article (can't refind it!) about some Australian aviculturists will turn mice loose to let their cockatoos eat them. I did find a few articles about feeding GangGangs pinkie mice and such.

One is here: http://www.parrotsociety.org.au/ go to articles, scroll to Cockatoo Talk.

The following quote comes from Old World Aviaries' site http://www.oldworldaviaries.com/text/lewis/gang-gang.html

"Gang Gangs need animal protein, lest they pluck and self-mutilate. Australian aviculturists who have Gang Gangs regularly feed chicken, pinkie mice, and other sources of animal protein."

And this site http://www.thomasriver.co.za/parrots/mmc.htm talks about feeding Major Mitchells pinkies or grubs.

Really, what are insects if not animal protein? So lean bits of meat might not be out of place for 'too diets. (I knew they were tiny T. Rexes!!) <img border="0" alt="[laughing]" title="" src="graemlins/laugh[1].gif" />
