OK, call me crazy. i always wanted one of those "big pink chickens", as he is lovingly known up north. actually, as he came from Rhode Island, i call him my "rhode island pink chicken".

seriously though, i got a call from a friend last week about him, and i said it may not be the best time for me, but when is it ever? so i said yes, and she and i went from here in fla. to atlanta, Ga. yesterday, to pick him up at the airport. we did not want him changing planes. it was quite a trip.

this big M2 sat with me the entire trip home, except for breaks, he sat with my friend. and he is BIG! my arm is very tired, from his weight!

Oliver is BEAUTIFUL AND SWEET!!!!!!!!!

here is his story-----he is at least 10 years old, had i owner for 2 years, the next for 8, when they decided he had to go, cause of children. a wonderful man who helps birds, Mike, took Oliver in. this was 2 weeks ago. Mike has other birds, including a sad rescue macaw, who has been abused, and is coming around with Mikes loving touch. however, the macaw is scared to death of everything, including noises, such as Oliver made. so, Oliver flew south!

his cage is in my bedroom, right now, and he is on top of it now. he calls out, and i go back to say hi! this has gone on all day long, in the middle of cooking Turkey dinner. i would bring him out here but he doesn't want to step up today, which he did yesterday. i figure he had a very busy day yesterday, 4 hour flight, 6 hour car trip, etc. so, he is resting and settling in.
my husband even went back to sleep during the morning M2 noise! so, i am Thanksgiving for a LOT of reasons!!!!!!!

Oliver is absolutely my last bird! there is just no more room, plus, i have to see that everbody gets enough TLC! so, if anybody asks about taking in another bird, my house is just, TOO-FULL!

OK, back to cooking, its going to be a late dinner, but that way my huz can eat twice, which he will love. finally got the turkey in the oven, after i borrowed the birdie bread pans, for plain corn-bread for stuffing.

hope you all enjoy today!.......linda2

LOL pink chicken. My friend insists on calling Jasper "chicken" and I admitt to doing it a couple of times. So now most people just say, "How's you chicken?" Anyway, back to you! Congrats on the new bird. I am just lured in by their beauty also, but not anytime soon wink . Anyway, I have one question whats TLC?

Congratulations on your new BIG boy!! LOL
Ronnie TLC is Tender Loving Care .
Jerry is right, give him a few days to get settled and he will be all over the house. I thought Zoe was just the sweetest little best behaved bird when I got her, they sure are tricky..lol

Congratulations on your "Pink Chicken". I remember my excitment when picking up my "Pink Chicken" at the airport (that was 7 months ago). Just remember to love them no matter what they do or how HARD they bite wink

Good luck with your new baby. Sounds like he has a home with someone to love him.

By the way, if he doesn't want to step up today, he needs to anyway. That's the old cockatoo song-and-dance that Lahlo gave us when we got her. Apparently (and I wish I had taken this advice to heart before it got out of hand) you should go right into your routine immediately and not let any rules go slack, even for the day. It helps us to get our M2 to stand on a perch first (start training him an 'on the perch' command now) and then ask her to step up; that way you have their attention, and they don't cling to the side of the cage.

We didn't follow this advice, and spent the next week having a bird that thought since she got away with one thing, she was in charge. Things can get nasty, especially for a settling bird no matter how sweet. Our Lahlo came to us with complete commendations on how gentle she was, and had been even when we handled her on our visits. Day one was great, day two was a nightmare, week one was hades, and then we learned that the rules for bad birds apply to good birds in order to keep the good birds 'good'. smile

I hope you learn from my and Steven's mistakes. We'd love to hear your discoveries about your new Rhode Island Pink. smile

Sorry for the confusion. The "Pink Chicken" we were refering to is a Moluccan Cockatoo wink
