This is so weird. Recently Sadie has been going after her own poo and eating it. At least I think she eats it or plays with it. She will spin around when she goes and try to catch it in her beak. Once she dropped some on the chair and went after it. I have found her with it on, or in, her beak several times. I hope this is just a phase and she will lose interest. Has this ever happened to your birds or is mine a nut case???

No, you're not a nut case. LOL Many animals eat their own or other animals feces, it is called coprophagia and may indicate some vital nutrient missing in the animals diet. Does your bird eat a well balanced diet? Your vet, if avian qualified, may be able to help you adjust the diet to correct for specific shortages. Others may have info based on their own experience. I don't think it is life threatening, just nasty to us.

Suki does it very rarely, i think she does it more out of curiosity lol, seeing what it tastes like ;o)))

Whenever she is on the floor and poo's she will often stretch her legs up and look underneath to have a look at it, it's so funny to watch.

My 'tiel Carly eats hers and Molly (chihuahua) likes EVERYONE'S. Missed plops on the floor are like snacks for her. YUCK!

My tiels do it too. Although they do seem to just pick it up, chew it and drop it rather than ingest much of it. For my guys it's only the dry stuff that might have food on it, since it's not food they just drop it.

It could be what Charlie was talking about or just a weird habit. Ask your vet if you are really worried.

My female M2 did this when she first came to live with us. Vet thought it was nutritional. She stopped after about a year. Thank goodness.
