I adopted Hoodie, a Hawk-Head Parrot, from Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in January. Once I got him home, I tried giving him mist showers, and he absolutely hated them. He'd get so agitated that I could tell it was damaging our relationship.
In desperation, because I know he needs regular bathing, I started putting a large heavy, shallow ceramic pan in the bottom of his cage, with about 1/2 inch of water.
He wanted nothing to do with it. He is a hyper aware bird, and he didn't like this cage addition at all. So, I started floating bits of broccoli in the water. He finally got where he'd fish the food out of the water, getting nothing wet but his beak.
Yesterday I caught him tapping the pan with his beak and investigating it thoroughly.
Today at lunch, he finally decided it was safe for use, and ended up taking an extended bath. I had to add water 3 times. By the time he was done, he was drenched to the skin. I have never seen a more thoroughly soaked bird.
I snapped this picture. Bad quality of picture, as it was on my cellphone...but I wanted to commemorate the occasion! http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/rr42/TopysMom/Hoodie/wethoodie.jpg
