I would like to ask a question. Now I know the normal standards if you eat a banana you smell like a banana.
I have a chronic med. condition and it can cause your sence of hearing and smell to increase. Thursday of last week I felt it comming on again. Well then I noticed that I can smell Kernals breath when he's near my face. Last night after turning off and unplugging almost eveything in the house I got back on the lap top only to find out that the noise I heard was the internal clcking keys of my lap top combined with the bag of cheerios that Kernal was in earlier. Any way I would like to be sure that no one knows of a condition that makes bird breath have a scent. It isn't unpleasant or anything. Just weird. Thank You Deb

I smell the zuppreem on Chewy's breath if he is right on me. Not if I am away from his cage or what not....

I know that my zon has a smell all his own and you know like people we all have an odor. I have never smelled Kernal breath before. most of my avian buddy's don't get that close but mr. love bug has to check ya out all over.
Thanks for the response. I was hoping it wasn't some sort of weird halatosis or something. LoL
My mom and friends tell me I'm just over worried. Oh well.
Again Thanks for putting my mind at ease. Deb

My Lucy has a distinct odor that I consider to be a Too smell. I don't think it is bad at all. I just associate it with Lucy. I guess I have always thought that most other Toos probably would smell similar (maybe because of the dust). JMO

Kahlua has bad breath usually. Not TERRIBLE where I can smell it from a mile away, but he gets close to my face, or if I let him look in my mouth from a few inches away (not touching anything in there of course).

As long as I am on that subject - is this ok to let him look in my mouth?! lol, I don't know why but he ALWAYS wants to look in there.

Mine get garlic breath when I give them a crouton as a treat - whew, it is powerful!

I would not worry about 'stinky bird' breath as long as there is a known recent food reason for it. If they eat garlic...they're going to have garlic breath. If your bird has very sour or yeasty smelling breath that should cause concern.

** sandiego - I'm not so sure that allowing Kahlua to 'explore' your mouth is such a great idea... Tongue piercing comes to mind smirk

Bogie's breath reflects what he's been eating;I can detect it if he's close. His feathers have a great fresh scent that I attribute to his powder.
Sandiego- In addition to the unwanted tongue piercing, the real danger is your saliva transmitting disease to your bird.

I think Toos really have a certain breath always; not bad or strong, but there... My Timneh has no breath smell but her feathers smell so good that I cant get enough of sniffing!!! When I start, Ruke makes the sniffing sound back at me.

Yeah, I am a compulsive cockatoo sniffer. They have a lovely dusty smell to the feathers... I just can't get enough...

There is nothing quite like the lovely aroma of the cockatoo.
Especially the morning after Nadia's shower,it's so intense.
I've said before, that if we could bottle it,we would have a big hit on our hands, you know......
