We have been having a lot of rain, despite it almost being Summer here in Albany, Western Australia, so consequently the Carnabys(who visit prior to rain), have been having a great old time!! They love the bottlebrush trees planted by our council on the street verge in front of our houses. They make a racket, leave a mess of bottlebrush flowers on the ground and move from tree to tree. I managed to catch some in our tree this morning enjoying themselves.

Gotta love them!
Love Kerry

So pretty! I actually had to google "Carnabys Cockatoo" because I had never heard of them before. It must be so wonderful to have such rare cockatoos in your own backyard.

Carnaby's are also known as Short-billed, White-tailed Blacks.

Beautiful! I didn't know about Carnaby's either.
Charlie: your family page said that tritons were from New Guinea; I read they were from Indonesia. Are they from both?

Well, that's even better. You had to be close. I got to do a little birding in Australia but nowhere near enough! I spent most of my time around Cairns and didn't see many wild Blacks although I did see some captives. Thanks for sharing.

Donna, where did you read that Tritons are from Indonesia? I have never seen a reference to that.

Thank you for sharing such a beautiful sight with us. It makes me want to provide Bebe with even more when you see what has been taken away from our loved ones.

You're most welcome. Since my beautiful girl, Cocky, went to her rest, I take solace in these wonderful wild toos. We have Galahs(rose breasted cockatoos) and Banks black cockatoos in our area aswell. I have previously posted a couple of photos of the Banks Toos,(also known as Red tailed black cockatoos).

Charlie it's on the DVD I ordered from the Indonesian Parrot Project store.

http://www.indonesian-parrot-project.org/booksdvds.html

You can read "Tritons" on the front cover of the DVD. It shows them for a few minutes in the DVD.

I suppose that makes sense. Papua New Guinea and the Indonesian Islands are fairly close in the same latitude. In fact Western Papua (Irian Jaya) is an Indonesian state.

Oh I see. Thanks Charlie. I think I remember seeing on that DVD or a program on Animal Planet that when Indonesia separated from Australia the mamals couldn't cross the water (just the birds). I need to start a journal--my memory is sliding due to too much on my plate. : )
