I was trying to find a picture of it and couldn't find it. Could anyone send me the link? Thanks. Gonna try to make one for Makira.

John, she is all healed now, but starts pulling feathers every year about this time. So far, we have only had one episode of biting off feathers, and no skin picking.

Cheryl,

To be honest it was "trial and error" I have LOTS of old T-Shirts, so I just cut the first one and went from there. It took a few trys but I finally got it right. After that, I used the pattern from the previous vest when I needed to change it and make a new one. I did find that making the one with four ties worked better and was more secure.

Kim, if you can make a sweater and put it on a big Too, you can do anything. LOL

I would have said " Lilly, do you want to put this sweater on"? And then I would have said "OK, never mind, my, what a big beak you have". LOL

Bev,

Lilly is such a good girl, not your "average" too. I am lucky that I can do anything with her. Now Tori is a different ballgame! Lord help me if he ever starts to pluck!

Cheryl, being the photographer that you are, when you get the vest on Makira, please share some pictures!!

Oh girl,I would be happy to if I can ever convince her to let me put it on her. First I showed it to her... hmmmm.. she took a bite at it and flung it. I played with her with it for a little bit and when it actually touched her she screeched at me. That was yesterday. Today I actually got the top part around her neck then she grabbed it and ducked out from under it somehow. That was gonna be my next question. How do I get it on her? I think it's gonna take a little time so she dosen't think I'm trying to kill her. How does the 4 tie one go on? 2 ties around the abdomen? Thanks, though.. I'll keep trying and as soon as I can get it on her.. I'll run for the camera.

Ha, I know what you mean. It takes a little while, but as I was saying to Bev, I am lucky because Lilly is the model subject. If it were Annabelle, I could get it on, but she would bite. If it were Andy, he would run for cover at the first sight of it and if it were Tori he would go for the jugular. shocked

The first tie goes around her neck, the second tie goes under her wings and ties over her body. Same with the third except further down. The forth goes underneath, and ties above the tail. Just make sure not to cover the vent area!

I could try and take some pictures, but its hard with only one set of hands. smile

Good luck and keep us posted. Kim

I just want to add that Lilly looks quite beautiful in her vest grin. I know it was not done for a fashion statement, and I so wish no Too ever needed one! However your creativeness does need to be applauded wink

I made this vest of Kim's for the 1st time back in Feb of 08...
Word of warning, my RB2 destroys them daily! I make as many as possible to keep them ready to go. Needless to say my usband no longer has any old t-shirts laying around here. I now by fabric from walmart, whatever is on clearance...

Kim -I love your idea, it has stopped my RB2 from scratching temporarily, but she still hurts herself when the vest is off.
I am shocked your toos do not shread them?

It's funny but she doesn't. Once it's on she leaves it, as well as her chest alone. Kind of like "out of sight out of mind". We had a discussion about it a while back. I am glad it is working for you though!

So far so good this year, with only one episode. February, in the past, has always been her worst month for plucking (picking).

Cheryl, a note to you. Lilly will be 6 in January. She was almost one when I got her. When she turned three, she started plucking (picking) one day out of the blue, no rhyme or reason. Vet check was all good. Every since then about this time of year I have to watch her carefully. She doesn't pluck, she bites the feathers off. One day a few weeks ago I went in and found all of her little chest feathers on the bottom of the cage. As long as she is not picking sores, its okay. She has not done it again, but we still have a few months to get through. When March gets here she usually stops and all of her feathers grow back.

Kim
