Does anybody know if theres any harm in letting a U2 tear up styrofoam packing peanuts? She loves tearing things up and I have tons of these. Just wonder if the material is safe for birds or not?

I believe that some of them are made out of rice. The ones that are will break down when they get wet, like rice paper. Those should be fine. The actual styofoam ones are bad for all animals.

Thanks a lot... these are the real styrofoam pieces... I guess good intuition is always best! I had a feeling that they could be bad!

I went to a local craft store and bought a large bag of what looked like brightly-colored styrofoam peanuts. They are supposed to be for children because when you get them a little damp, they stick together and can be used like building blocks. They are made completely from corn starch and are non-toxic and biodegradable. And, even better, they were really cheap!! I got a large bag of them for about four bucks. My U2, Gizmo, loves them and so does my father's CAG and Quaker!

A bird is like a child to love, nurture, and care for. . . but they never grow up and move away.
