Bill Whines.

It's not a trait I particularly enjoy in people, dogs, OR large white birds.

His previous owners threw pens at him when he did it. 12 years of pens did not stop it (imagine!). It's gotten a little better, mostly because I pre-empt it when I can and ignore it when I can't.

Someone suggested that this is 'hungry baby-bird" noise. I've never heard a baby cockie. Anyone else's do this ?

He also does the possessed child dance. He mostly does it when he wants attention or "down" it's the precursor to the temper tantrum. I think it's funny and I've almost got him doing it on cue. Not with as much gusto though.

The videos are the same...and yes, Echo whines like that!

Shoot. Let me try again. It's my first video/youtube foray.

Try this for the possessed bird.

She wasn't refined or unrefined. She was the kind of person that keeps a parrot.

I've heard this whining in adult toos and as far as I can tell they were all ok when they whined. In fact, a few weeks ago, an M2 which I know and knows me did that to me (we get along fine). I admit I do not know what he was trying to tell me by that whining but he was all right. And just like in your video where Bill will whine and go back to do his own things, the same goes for those toos that have whined and that I've heard.

Edit to include, I believe sometimes the whining means we really need to pay attention and do something, but at times it could be something less important and we need not worry too much

I have to say, I don't worry too much about it. Whining is whining. usually it happens when I'm preparing food and haven't put a bit on his perch to munch on while I'm cooking. My sympathy is somewhat limited but I do try to set it up so that he doesn't feel he HAS to whine to get his needs met. If he's ignored for too long, he will happily escalate and include a WHEEP WHEEP WHEEP with the keening. I love him dearly. Whining drives me nuts in any animal.

Your U2 sounds almost like a cat LOL.

Yes my LSC2 makes a whinning sound when she wants attention. I try not to make it a big deal but I do talk to her to let her know I'm still here and she is fine.

Yes Cocky does that too, he sounds like a seagull. He rarely makes "cockatoo" noises, before he came to us he was with a Jenday conure, and makes a strange "phee-phee" noise too.

Love the new stand, Bill must be happy with it.

Proud to be deemed worthy of my U2's flock

My u2 does the same thing.

Though if you ignore it, the "whining" gets faster until it sounds like she's scolding you.

Leah doesn't whine but she cries, like "ehhhhhhh" raspily, one day I'll video it. When she's really hungry like in the mornings and I'm not getting her breakfast fast enough (lol) she'll cry so hard that she has to gasp for breath! Sometimes I can't figure out what she wants, but usually its food or to go to bed. Or head rubs.

S'mommy: Bill likes his new playstand. It was supposed to be a sleeping perch that my landlord made, but he doesn't want to sleep on it, so I attached all manner of things, padded the doweling and made some rope/towelling ladders and am now teaching him how to get up and down the ladders. He sure is getting better at climbing.

Leah: Bill will speed up his 'talking' too when he wants something. Not the whining, but if he wants what yo have he'll start saying "hello bill, hello bill (then speed up) h'lobill, lobill, lobilobilobilobilobi until he gets it or realizes it's not coming.

My newly acquired G2 whines, but her voice sound is the furthest thing from what I would expected it to be to, she reminds me of "Minnie Mouse" , a high pitched baby voice or maybe somebody goofing around on Funniest Videos talking after using helium. She (I think its a girl) sounds like a bobcat when she screams loud, which is realy not that loud, PTL, compared to my U2. When she settles in I will post some photos or vids. My U2 does the " eheheh!" thing but hers sounds like almost but not quite, a growl & displays what few feathers & crest she has, she does it when she's on top of her cage during a " freak out " session..
