Question about bird shows - 01/14/13 01:40 PM

I went to a bird show yesterday with a friend who was looking for supplies for her new love birds. As a rule, I normally do not attend these events because I hate to see some of the conditions the birds are in, but I was looking for a particular item for Sebastian's cage (which I did find).

Fortunately there were not many large birds there. It was mostly cages, food, and accessories. Anyway, sure enough as we walked to the back, I see two different birds stuffed in cages that were much too small for them to be in. One was a Moluccan and the other a Macaw with severe feather picking. Both looked miserable. My question is, aren't these events inspected by Animal Control? It makes me mad to see any animal kept like this, especially knowing how I keep my own pets. I just wondered if events like this are ever patrolled.

OMG. Thanks for sharing that article! I told my friend about making sure to wash her hands and not come in contact with her bird until after she was cleaned but, I never thought about the airborne germs! I hope I didn't make mine sick. I would really be heartbroken if something happened to her. I will not be going to another one. I will send the article to my friend as well. I bought three toys there but I've washed and given them to her already. I never would have bought a bird there. Can't believe I did not think..
